Lancaster Theological Seminary: Alumni Day
Lancaster Theological Seminary’s annual Alumni Day was held the day before graduation for the Class of 2022. The day is a wonderful opportunity for former LTS students to return to campus and mingle with new graduates, as well as celebrate the continued success and mission of the seminary. The day began with a worship service full of song and prayer to bring together students past and present with seminary staff and teachers.
Service was followed by a buffet lunch at the PepperTheo Cafe. Former classmates reunited while breaking bread. Many traveled great distances to see old friends, and members of classes from as early as the 1950s were in attendance.
During lunch two awards were given to recognize outstanding alum—the Allan S. Meck Award for Faithfulness in Ministry and the Robert V. Moss Award for Faithfulness in Ministry. The Meck Award was received by Rev. Sara A. Hertzog ’06 for her distinguished service in the practice of pastoral ministry. The Moss Award was received by Rev. John F. Dieterly ’69 for his distinguished service in the practice of specialized ministry.
Following lunch students and alum were invited to attend educational workshops. The topics included the history of church and chapel architecture though the centuries, the artistic process of icon paintings, and the stained glass windows of LTS’s own Santee Chapel.
The day ended with wine and cheese refreshments at PepperTheo Cafe. Rev. Dr. Heather Hartung Vacek, Dean of Lancaster Theological Seminary addressed the crowd with a State of the Seminary speech in which she recounted the successes of LTS in the last year and their continued progress in the combining of their institution with Moravian University and Moravian Seminary.
