Lancaster Theological Seminary welcomed several new students to the 2023-2024 academic year into various degree programs. Among the many talented and bright new pupils are Quentin and Deklan. It was a privilege to meet these two recently and capture their headshots. Read more about them below.

Quentin

Lancaster Seminary’s “diversity of ethnicity, culture, and denominations” attracted incoming Master of Divinity student Quentin from Baltimore. Quentin is a licensed minister, accomplished organist, motivational speaker, and combat veteran who served in the US Army infantry in Iraq. He has a BA in Sociology from Morgan State University in Baltimore.

“I believe in order to become a more effective leader in the church, education on diversity is a must,” Quentin says. “Diversity is a must because God loves everyone and he expects us to love everyone.

“My goals for using my seminary education include becoming an effective preacher and soon-to-be pastor. Effective in understanding the similarities and differences between all of us. Effective in celebrating the thought that humanity joins us all together. My long term goal is to become a Chaplain in the US Army so that I can give back to my brothers and sisters in arms.”

Deklan

Deklan is an incoming seminarian in the weekend Master of Divinity program. With a bachelor’s degree in Biblical Studies, Deklan felt the call to ministry but struggled to find acceptance until he discovered his spiritual home at Lancaster Seminary. His goal is ordination within the United Church of Christ, where he believes his unique gifts and experiences will illuminate God’s boundless love in the world.

Deklan is a proud transgender man, father and devoted believer in God, navigating the intersection of his faith and identity as an openly gay individual. With a profound love for his child and a deep appreciation for people’s diversity, he prioritizes meaningful connections. Deklan’s creativity finds expression in music, art, writing, and crocheting. With a relentless quest for knowledge, Deklan embodies the transformative power of self-discovery, faith, and unwavering love.
