Yana contacted me just before Christmas. Her family was finally all together in Lancaster. They traveled from all over and many states away to enjoy the holidays with each other. A few days later, we met at Overlook Park. The park’s tree grove provides a perfect background all year long and the trees provided cover from the gray skies and threat of rain. The park also turned out to be a great choice for the family as it reminded them of the woods in their home country of Russia.

While planning the Family Portrait Session, Yana ‘warned’ me a couple of times that her family doesn’t like to take themselves too seriously. They just wanted to have a fun time and capture the rare moment of them being together. This became apparent immediately as our time together started. After capturing a group photo of the whole family, they immediately began calling out ideas for each other and jumping in front of the camera in different groups. We took a group photo of their “Russian Smiles” (straight, stern faces), silly posses, handstands, and more. This photo shoot was truly a fun time for everyone!
