Isabel Lark, Pastel Artist
Lancaster, PA
Isabel Lark is talented pastel artist based in downtown Lancaster. I visited her at her beautiful home studio overlooking the center of the city to capture portraits and photos of a special art piece she had just completed. Isabel was tasked with creating artwork for Lancaster Theological Seminary’s annual Epiphany card. She in turn produced a stunning pastel drawing of a LTS’s Peace Pole in front of Santee Chapel.
The Peace Pole is one of many spreading through the world as an international symbol of and monument to peace. The monument reads “May Peace Prevail on Earth” translated into multiple languages. The Peace Pole originated with the May Peace Prevail on Earth International organization who say “Planting a Peace Pole is a way of bringing people together to inspire, awaken and uplift the human consciousness the world over. It is a wonderful project for any community, organization or your home.” Its message certainly at home on the LTS campus where all are welcome.

This was the second time I was invited to Isabel’s home to photograph her work for the Epiphany card. I was excited to visit again as Isabel is a wonderful person and extremely talented artist. It’s an honor to capture her work and her process. While in her brand new studio, I couldn’t resist taking photos of her supplies and setup—the tools of the trade. There’s so much color and character in the used and worn pastels and other art supplies. They tell a story all on their own. I felt like I was getting an exclusive peek into the mind of the artist!
